In traditional Christianity, the faithful are told to abstain from certain foods and activities, and to pray in commemoration of Christ's 40 days in the desert. But our modern souls seek a deeper, more complex and subtle experience. We want to go beyond fasting and prayer to an intimate sense of our own inner reflection of this mysterious and profoundly sacred experience.

Inner Lent

Our main focus of Lenten attention will be our inner relationship to limitations, restraint and self-management. The 40 days of Lent give us an opportunity to reflect on and explore how "no!" lives in all aspects of our lives. Some of us find "no" meets us like a wild beast threatening to devour our thoughts, feelings or actions. Some of us struggle with saying "no" to what tempts us, distracts us or seduces us.

In this Lenten course, we will enter the wilderness together with the intention to explore and develop our relationship to "No!", and to recognize and overcome or transform the temptations of our prejudices, addictions and fantasies. We will address the biological, biographical and cultural roots of these beasts and temptations.

Most importantly, we will design and undertake spiritual practices to compassionately support our inner development during Lent.

Homework: To enrich your experience, I will send a few questions and a worksheet to stimulate and clarify your thoughts, feelings and experiences regarding your Inner Lent.

Four 60 minute sessions over eight weeks on Thursday or Sunday. You have the choice of attending either Thursdays or Sundays or both.

Each session will be recorded and available for listening and downloading. So if you can't participate in the call you will be able to get all the material. And you can relisten to the call any number of times.

The cost of the teleworkshop is $47.
